Montbéliard offers presents before Christmas

The region of Montbéliard with 142,000 inhabitants is the third largest community in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in France’s east. The city looks forward to welcoming the EHF EURO 2018 at a time when its major event of the year takes place: The Montbéliard Christmas market.

More than 400,000 visitors enjoy the atmosphere of one of the most beautiful markets in France every year. It is in this magical setting where the best handball players in Europe will be able to discover and enjoy a place full of treasures.

The Pays de Montbéliard with its more than 1,000 years of history has a lot to offer. It is a hot spot for the French car industry, but also boasts architectural sights like the castle of the Dukes of Württemberg and its gastro delights such as the very famous Montbéliard sausage. It also benefits from an advantageous position on the Rhine-Rhône axis, right in the heart of an urban area with more than 300,000 inhabitants – and close to one of the mother countries of handball: Germany.

Sport and the Pays de Montbéliard have a strong connection: The first professional football club, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (FCSM), was founded here in 1930. Since its inception, the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération (PMA) has been pushing a pro-active sports policy to make the widest range of sports accessible to the region’s inhabitants. Whether it is at the Bonal Stadium or in the multi-sports hall, L’Axone, the spectators are used to big events. They will be looking forward to seeing the international women’s teams of the EHF EURO 2018, with their performances being a true Christmas gift ahead of Christmas.
